Getting here from Overtown
By car it is about 1.3 miles, roughly five minutes: take NW 14th St west under I-95, then north on NW 10th Ave. There is free parking on site.
By train, ride Metrorail from Historic Overtown/Lyric Theatre or Culmer to UHealth-Jackson. Two stops, no transfer, then about a third of a mile to our door. The free Overtown and Health District trolleys also connect.
A neighborhood we have served for decades
Overtown was built by Black railroad workers on Henry Flagler's line and grew into what people called the Harlem of the South, where performers barred from Miami Beach hotels stayed and played along what was known as Little Broadway. The Historic Lyric Theater on NW 2nd Ave opened in 1913 and joined the National Register in 1989. Greater Bethel AME and the Dana A. Dorsey House, home of Miami's first Black millionaire, still stand. When the interstates were routed straight through the neighborhood in the mid-century, they cut a dense community into pieces, and the effects are still visible in the blocks around the highway ramps.
Why getting to care matters here
